'Friend'
Staten Island Advance - Saturday, May 20, 2006
Betsy Dubovsky, executive director of SI Bank &
Trust, was honored yesterday by the City University of New York's
Office of Special Programs, during a luncheon at the university's
central offices in Manhattan.
Mrs. Dubovsky was recognized by the university as a
"Friend of Special Programs." Her award was presented by Cheryl
Williams, university assistant dean for Special Programs, and Dr.
Carol Jackson, vice president of Student Affairs at the College of
Staten Island.
Since 2001, SI Bank & Trust has provided the College
of Staten Island's SEEK Program with grants totaling $205,000 to
support its special internship program called Strategies for
Success.
The program helps students learn to develop study
skills and learning strategies essential to college success, and in
turn, they help youngsters with homework in the Virtual Y program at
PS 57, Clifton and the Jewish Community Center's Beacon after-school
program at Dreyfus Intermediate School, Stapleton.
The students also mentor the children and stress the
importance of education and the development of critical thinking
skills.
