Way Out West
Staten Island Advance - Sunday, March 12,
2006
Inspired by the recent pop-culture surge of western
movies and fashions, members of the College of Staten Island's
Foundation staged a country-western casino bash on Feb. 26.
"There was live music from the Nashville Attitude
and plenty of cactus juice to go around," remarked Donna Lindsey,
the school's event coordinator.
The event was held in the center of the Staten
Island Mall. Ms. Lindsey and her crew only had 45 minutes between
mall closing and the start of the function to decorate the entire
space.
"We threw some red-and-white checkered table cloths
on the tables and set up a barn right there in the center court,"
she said. "It was a lot of fun. I think this one was really good."
The Foundation's annual event always has a memorable
theme: Last year's function was celebrated in Caribbean style white
the year before participants enjoyed a Mardi Gras vibe.
The best part of this year's function? Ms. Lindsey
says it was the guests' costumes.
"Bob Cutrona, Sam Farag and Bruno Savo made the best
cowboys," she said. "Everyone had bandannas and cowboy hats - they
really did it up."
At the end of the evening, some major prizes were
awarded to Terry Blum and Gilda Stasi. Ms. Stasi walked away with a
free trip to Acapulco, Mexico, while Blum won a catered card game at
his home, courtesy of Tumbling Dice Gaming Company.
The evening's profits will benefit scholarships and
student research opportunities.
