Celebrate Caribbean style at the Staten Island
Mall
Staten Island Advance - March 23, 2005
The center court of the Staten Island Mall in New
Springville will be transformed into a tropical oasis for an
entertaining night at a Caribbean Casino on April 3 from 7 to
10:30p.m.
The event is the second annual casino-themed fund-raiser for the
College of Staten Island (CSI). Proceeds will benefit student
scholarship programs and undergraduate research opportunities at
CSI.
Jim Easley, vice president and general manager of the Staten Island
Mall, is chairing.
Mr. Easley is also vice president of the CSI Foundation board of
directors and an adjunct lecturer with the college’s business
department.
Caribbean Casino Night will feature blackjack, roulette and other
games of chance set against a backdrop of steel-drum music. Four
tables of Texas Hurricane Hold’em Poker and multiple slot machines
are exciting new additions to the gaming area this year.
Poker players can also pay $50 to buy a seat in a timed Texas
Hurricane Hold’em Tournament. In this new twist to a trendy
favorite, the player with the most chips when time is up wins a
“house party” of Texas Hold’em or Blackjack, complete with dealer
and table, donated by event partner Tumbling Dice, Inc. The winner’s
“house party” will be complete with food and beverages catered by
the American Grill, courtesy of the CSI Foundation.
The Staten Island Mall and the CSI Foundation have teamed up to
provide the
grand raffle prize of a weeklong vacation for two, including airfare
and accommodations, to one of many destinations throughout the
Caribbean. Airfare will be provided by John Mazza, president of Adak
Contractors and Consultants, Annadale. Other raffle prizes include
golf clubs and free rounds of golf donated by Bob Cutrona, a digital
camera and photo printer, and various baskets of cheer.
Also, 100 guests will receive certificates good for a “day of
beauty” or spa treatment, provided by Pilo Arts in Bay Ridge,
Brooklyn.
The ticket price for Casino Night is $150, which includes $50 in
gaming chips, entertainment, and raffle tickets, as well as food and
beverages served by the American Grill Restaurant. The menu will
include multiple seafood stations, including two raw bars, and a
chef-attended fresh-made pasta bar. Hors d’oeuvres and rum-runners,
a tropical drink favorite, will also be served. Tropical themed
business casual attire is suggested, while cockatiels and hibiscus
are optional.
