Students serve as interns at Chamber
Chamber usually
hosts one or two high school or college students each semester
Staten Island Advance - March 22, 2005
The Chamber maintains an active intern program for
Staten Island high school and college students.
Interns help coordinate events and major fund-raisers, edit
articles, compile Chamber membership surveys, and assist with
day-to-day office responsibilities.
The Chamber usually accepts one or two students per semester.
Stephanie Diestro, a sophomore at the College of Staten Island says
she that her internship has been a real confidence builder.
“At first I used to be hesitant about making phone calls to Chamber
members that I didn’t know,” she said.
“Now, I feel much more comfortable and that confidence reflects in
my every day life.”
Molly Barckhaus, a senior at Curtis High School, who completed an
internship at the Chamber this past February, recalls that her time
there as an excellent learning experience which will help her in
college.
“My time at the Chamber was more than just answering phones and
making photocopies. It taught me a lot about ethics in the workplace
and gave me insight into various fields of work I was interested in
pursuing after college,” she said.
Internships are open to high school students or full-time college
students, who often receive college credits for their time.
