
CSI athletes honored at CUNY

and Zinke take a bow as Dolphin seniors

The College of Staten Island was well represented
last night during the CUNY Conference’s 18th Annual Scholar-Athlete
Awards Ceremony at Hunter College in Manhattan.
Marcel Sandougout (men’s tennis), Giorgia Penso
(women’s tennis and volleyball), April Avena (women’s softball and
volleyball) and Eric Zinke (men’s basketball and baseball) were
honorable-mention selections on a night when the CUNY announced its
Scholar-Athlete of the Year winners.
And a Staten Island resident, Hunter College track
and cross-country star Tiffanie Clarke, took home one of the CUNY’s
four top awards as the senior college Female Scholar-Athlete of the
year.
Sandoughout, a native of France, carries a 3.75
grade-point average in International Studies. Penso, who hails from
Venice, Italy, has a 3.84 in International Business. Avena (St. John
Villa) has a 3.36 in Elementary Education and Zinke (Monsignor
Farrell) a 3.2 in Accounting.
City College soccer player Santiago Helman was named
Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year for senior colleges.
The CUNY awards went to seniors who carried at least
a 3.2 grade-point average and also took into account community
service.
