The Friends of the College of Staten Island (CSI) is planning a
winter literary brunch featuring author Terrence J. Golway. Golway,
who most recently penned “So That Others Might Live,” (a history of
New York City firefighters), also wrote “Irish in America” (and
Staten Island).
The event will be held Feb.9. Chris and Nancy Benbow are chairing
the gathering, which will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the
CSI Park Café on the Willowbrook campus.
Proceeds from the brunch will benefit the CSI library. Tickets
are $40 per person, and reservations are limited. Checks should be
made payable to the CSI Foundation, Inc. For more information, the
number to call is (718) 982-2365.
A columnist and city editor of New York Observer, Mr. Golway
chronicles the history of “New York’s Bravest” in “So Other Might
Live.”
A son, godson and in-law of members of the FDNY, he traces the
history of these civil servants from the volunteers of colonial
times to the highly-trained force of today.
A former Tottenville resident, Mr. Golway currently lives in
Maplewood, N.J.
Mary Regan is president of the Friends of the College of Staten
Island and Laura Kennedy is program chairman.
Parking for brunch participants will be available in Lot 4.
